The Dayton International Peace Museum is well aware of the connection between peace and a sustainable environment. At the museum at 208 W. Monument Ave., there is a display of the work of Sr. Dorothy Stang, S.N.D., an environmentalist in Brazil who gave her life to the cause of protecting the rain forest and the indigenous people who live there. DIPM also has a Future Energy Center and Conservation Center in Brookville. | Upcoming EventsDescendants Day06/26/2011 04:00 p.m. – 08:00 p.m. @ to be determine Every year, Creation Connection hosts an interfaith gathering to pray and educate around an issue of environmental justice. Descendants Day emphasizes Loving Your Neighbor Through Time, that is, reflecting on the importance of our choices on the lives of future generations. We share a meal and spend time in fun and fellowship as well. Our theme for 2010 is “Urban Food Prospects and Possibilities.” Faith Morgan of Community Solution in Yellow Springs, Treva Jenkins of Breaking Ground and Feed Dayton, and Tony Stieritz from Catholic Social Action will be our featured speakers as we consider where our food comes from, how it impacts the environment, and why food is an issue of justice. Several faith traditions will provide leadership in prayer. Previous years have found us at such diverse locations as the river’s edge, a gravel pit, a landfill, a Boy Scout camp, and the site of a proposed big box store. In 2009, we met at Chaminade-Julienne High School, took a walk to the old train station, and prayed for equitable and sustainable mass transit for our region. Our time together each year is a time of fellowship, as we gather for a meal. Please bring a covered dish, your own place setting, and lawn chair.
